Department: Anthropology and Sociology

Research Focus: I currently research family sociology, sexual assault and its prevention, and gun subcultures. Although most of my research is quantitative, I have also published qualitative work.

Potential Student Project(s):

I am flexible with regard to topics, but would be particularly interested in a project involving family roles and how they are constructed in social media.

Attributes/skills/background sought in undergraduate:

Strong writing skills; self-driven; reliable; keen analytic abilities.

Mentoring Plan:

I would plan to mentor the student as they complete their (likely qualitative) project involving content analysis of social media. The student researcher will work 5 hours per week on the project, including weekly meetings of 1 hour each. I will guide the student through all phases of the project, including construction of a literature review, developing a methodology for data collection and analysis, carrying out said data collection and analysis, and writing the conclusions. The student would aim to present preliminary results in a departmental context by the end of the spring semester.
