Potential Student Project(s):

We welcome any project related to language education. For example, one possible project involves students having the opportunity to teach language and culture to children and then evaluating which lessons are most effective. While studying various language teaching methodologies, students will gain hands-on teaching experience. Through this, they will not only deepen their own knowledge of language and culture but also assess how the language skills and knowledge of the children improve and develop over time.

Attributes/skills/background sought in undergraduate:

I would love to have students who enjoy learning languages and are committed to the project, capable of putting in consistent effort until the end. Additionally, the students should be flexible in their thinking, regularly reflect on their ideas, and have the ability to improve continuously.

Mentoring Plan:

The student researcher will meet directly with Dr. Matsumoto on a one-on-one basis, at least once a week if possible, to discuss topics of interest. Together, the student researcher and Dr. Matsumoto will develop an active research plan. Dr. Matsumoto will then teach the students the basic content needed to proceed with the project, which the students will apply to their work. The student will work 5 hours per week on the project including 1h/week of 1-on-1 meeting with the mentor. The student researcher will be encouraged to write a reflection on their research activities.
