Department: Computer Science
Research Focus: Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Election Administration, Technology of Voting Systems
Potential Student Project(s):
I work in several areas in computer science, especially cybersecurity, computer models and theory, mathematical and discrete structures and algorithms in computer science, technology of voting systems and electronic poll books, and various aspects of election administration in US and Indiana. A potential student project could involve any of these or related areas, and could include doing a survey of the topic, an exploration of interesting issues and or interconnections, collection of some related data, interpretation, and suggestions/recommendations for solutions.
Attributes/skills/background sought in undergraduate:
Background related to the above areas is preferred but not required. You must be interesting in learning about a (possibly new) topic, acquire skills in problem solving, use online searches and gather data, use tools such as Excel and prepare reports of your work.
Mentoring Plan:
- Discuss and select a topic/problem in one or more of the areas listed above, or in some related areas.
- Formulate a proposal that describes the problem to be explored, a description of resources/tools/methods to be used, and goal(s) to be achieved.
- Work on the proposed project, which may include a survey, collection of data, interpretation, and results.
- Prepare a Comprehensive Structured Report of your work which may include illustrations, figures, tables etc.
- A format for the Report will be provided.
