Department: Psychological Science

Research Focus: My research focuses on the interconnections between work, family, and gender across the life span.

Potential Student Project(s):

My lab focuses on two lines of research. First, I study the interconnections between work and family roles (e.g., the implications of work-family conflict and enrichment for employee's health, their children, career development, and organizations). Second, I study factors that support or discourage gender atypical career development (e.g., women in computer science). More information about my research lab can be found on my personal website.

This academic year, my research lab will collect survey data from childcare employees to better understand whether their workplace experiences have implications for their well-being and the well-being of their families. To meet this goal, research assistants in my lab will help create and pilot surveys, recruit participants, and manage/clean datasets.

Attributes/skills/background sought in undergraduate:

- Punctual
- Works well independently and as part of a team
- Able to attend a lab meeting from 3-4 on Tuesdays
- Some familiarity with research methods (preferred student took a Research Methods course, but not required)
- Strong work ethic and attention to detail

Mentoring Plan:

The student researcher will work 5 hours/week on the project including a 1-on-1 interaction with me for at least 1 hour/week. The research lab (expected to be ~4 graduate/undergraduate students) will meet once a week for an hour to determine weekly goals, and then students will work independently to meet these goals. Students may continue to work in my lab beyond the semester of the Teacher-Scholar program.
