Fine Focus is a digital and print journal dedicated to showcasing the research of undergraduate students, internationally, in all fields of microbiology. Fine Focus is managed entirely by undergraduate students from production to print, and coordinates double-blind peer reviews by an Editorial Board of experts from all subdisciplines of microbiology.
Dr. John McKillip and his nine students created a signature issue of Fine Focus as a platform for an international journal for undergraduate microbiology research for STEM outreach, to allow academically underrepresented students of color, women, and those of lower socioeconomic standing, to be the authors of, and authorities on, their own education.
Undergraduate students from the University of Detroit Mercy (UDM) were provided with appropriate tools to actively participate in scientific writing and the double-blind scientific peer-review process by developing and promoting a digital and print bound journal showcasing research of undergraduates in microbiology internationally. This signature issue of Fine Focus, showcased UDM student achievement in undergraduate research while providing these participants the chance to elevate the profile and mission of Fine Focus for future student editors and authors.
