Dan Porter and his students created the foundation for a BSU student run, sustainable 21st century record label, Beneficence Records, that promotes Indiana musical artists and whose releases benefit selected partner charities and not-for-profit organizations statewide each year.

Students under the supervision of faculty and local music industry consultants coordinated logistics for the pre-production, recording, post-production, copyright licensing, marketing, physical and digital distribution, promotion, and on-site sale of a single full length recorded album as well as organize a release party that features both performances from the recorded artists and a high-definition "listening" of said album.

The first album produced under the Beneficence Records label featured select artists from the 2016/2017 Tonic Ball Indy charity concerts and benefit Indianapolis based hunger relief and culinary job training not-for-profit, Second Helpings.
