The purpose of Kazumi Matsumoto and her students project was to immerse students in authentic and intensive learning environments as they produced a book of Japanese onomatopoeia material called Roary's Story: Travel to Japan. It is an interactive, digital learning resource designed to help students of Japanese (from beginner to intermediate levels) master authentic onomatopoeia through context.

The students were divided into two groups: (1) a group of creating story and cultural notes and (2) creating animations and illustrations along with the story. The book consists of six chapters and describes onomatopoeia definitions in both Japanese and English with culture notes and the topic of each story. In total, the book includes 332 onomatopoeias associated with 66 animations and 49 illustrations.
