Abstract

The McCullough's Run site was discovered during earthmoving for a housing development.  The site produced sixteen prehistoric features on a prominent sandy ridge overlooking a stream and marsh.  Two features were affiliated with the Oliver Phase, 10 features contained cremated human remains and artifacts, two features were historic and two features were indeterminate prehistoric.  The focus of the investigation was on the 10 features with cremated remains.  These features contained diagnostic Bifurcate tradition points, lithic artifacts manufactured from Wyandotte chert, red and yellow ocher and bone artifacts.  Four radiocarbon dates ranged between 5480 +/- 130 and 8130 +/- 70 BP.  Analysis of the human remains revealed that eighteen individuals were represented in the 10 features.
