The Applied Anthropology Laboratories (AAL) is an institute within the College of Sciences and Humanities. Established in 1978, the AAL provides cultural resource management services for public and private agencies and has since grown to include academic research activities, public education, and student involvement. 

The Applied Anthropology Laboratories at Ball State University provides a full range of cultural resource management and research investigations with a professional staff experienced in all levels of compliance while furthering student engagement and education.
