Department: Special Education

Research Focus: My research focuses on how practitioners can be culturally responsive when providing services to their Autistic clients.

Potential Student Project(s): Student projects would focus on developed, implementing, and analyzing survey data on current practices.

Attributes/skills/background sought in undergraduate: Students with a growth mindset are the best fit. Although technology skills are ideal, it is most important that a student wants to grow through mutually delivered feedback.

Mentoring Plan: The mentoring plan will be altered depending on the knowledge and skill sets of the students who apply, but the goals/steps I envision are outlined here. The first step would be for students to acquire and demonstrate an understanding of survey development. The second goal would be for them to demonstrate they can suggest survey content based on assigned readings. The third step would be to identify the survey participants and to co-create an IRB application. The fourth step would be conducting the survey and analyzing the results. In addition to my support, I would work with students to identify university resources that they can continue using in their work at BSU (e.g., the writing center, learning center, research design center, etc.). The long-term expectation is that students would be included in a national presentation and publication.
