Department: Early Childhood, Youth, and Family Studies

Research Focus: Dating, mate selection, courtship, cohabitation, marriage, divorce, parenting adult children, family stress (and about anything else having to do with relationships and family).

Potential Student Project(s):

I have data from thousands of university students regarding their families, dating/sexual behavior and attitudes, and beliefs about love and marriage. Students can assist with a variety of ongoing projects related to analyzing this data, or help create a new project using the data. I have some similar data from students in Iran that can be similarly analyzed. I am also open to working with students interested in gathering new data related to their specific interests in the realm of relationships and family.

Attributes/skills/background sought in undergraduate:

Dependable and curious.

Mentoring Plan:

I prefer to let students take as much lead as they are able in being involved with research that interests them. I am very flexible and open. Will do plenty of brainstorming and consulting with existing literature together to create interesting studies and/or analysis. Prefer to work with a pair of students to form a research team. The student researcher will work 5 h/week on the project including a 1-on-1 interaction with me for at least 1 hour/week.
