Department: Elementary Education 

Research Focus: Reading Comprehension in digital versus paper platforms, including motivation. 

 

Potential Student Project(s):

Students will be involved in the ongoing research of technology versus paper media and reading comprehension. This may entail finding and reading articles about these topics and writing summaries, helping to develop survey and interview questions, and compiling or organizing data from surveys. Students and I will work together to collaborate on a shared writing venture that we will submit to a conference or journal.

Education major, organized, curious

 

Mentoring Plan:

I am available to meet with the student once or twice per week for a (1) one-hour duration, either onsite or by scheduling an online or offline meeting. During these mentoring sessions, I will assist the student in:

• Creating goals for each semester
• How to read, organize, and summarize research articles
• Developing surveys and interview questions
• In addition, I will help the student to co-write a proposal and possibly present findings

The student is expected to work on the project for 5 hours/week, including 1h/week of one-on-one meeting with me.
