Associate Teaching Professor of Chemistry
I’m a teaching focused professor who primarily covers general chemistry, but I occasionally get an upper level Organic or P. Chem lab. As a kid, I became interested in science through gardening. Setting up my first compost heap introduced me to microbes. I still love to compost and maintain a worm bin in my bathroom :)
My College Experience
I went to a college in Iowa and started as a chem & bio double major. I enjoyed my physics and chemistry classes more, so I switched to a General Chemistry major with Physics minor. I did research and had an internship testing chemicals in waste water. I got my Ph.D. from the University of California, Davis.
What I have Learned?
My internship showed me that I wanted to do more than test the same kind of samples everyday which is why I went to grad school. Starting a family and the “Great Recession” made finishing grad school and finding a job take longer than expected, but showing up and putting in the effort have allowed me to build a life I enjoy!
