Professor Massaro is thrilled to have joined the theatre faculty at Ball State University. Prof. Massaro’s performing arts career spans theatre, television, and film; and includes acting, directing, producing, development, and artistic leadership. He has worked with Tony Award winning regional theatres including: American Players Theatre, Folger Shakespeare Theatre, BEDLAM, Playhouse on Park, ART/NYC, and many others. On those stages his credits include roles in
A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Bottom),
Anna in the Tropics (Cheché),
Hamlet (Claudius),
Santaland Diaries,
St. Joan,
As You Like It,
King Lear,
Much Ado About Nothing,
Ring Round the Moon, and many others. Prof. Massaro has worked alongside Academy Award Winning filmmakers including Adam McKay and Christian Bale on
VICE, and Ray Romano and Laurie Metcalf on
Somewhere in Queens. Most recently, Prof. Massaro was cast as the lead opposite Emmy Award winner Ty Burrell for an ABC Network Comedy Pilot titled
Forgive and Forget. The pilot was directed by television legend James Burrows. Prof. Massaro is also the Founder and Co-Artistic Director of Circuit Theatre Company (CTC), a Chicago based company dedicated to reclaiming the ‘classics’ of the theatre for a new generation of artists. Prof. Massaro directed both
Richard II and
The 6th; or
the Patriots at CTC.
Prof. Massaro holds a BFA in Acting from Florida State University and an MFA in Acting from University of California-Irvine.
His creative passions and research interests include language driven theatre, verse, vocal production and rhetoric, foreign-language plays, comedy and clown, American Musical Theatre, and the works of Shakespeare and his contemporaries.
Prof. Massaro is proud to be an Intimacy Director (certification pending) trained and certified by IDC Professionals. He is a member of SAFD, Actor’s Equity, and SAG-AFTRA.
