Potential Student Project(s):
I am currently working on an international collaboration with a perfumer, NaiFang Ku in Taiwan who created a series of three scents based on my drawings. I have worked with her to create the design for the perfume bottles, which are hand-painted 3D printed figurative sculptures. We will create an edition of 240 prints.
We plan to launch our project in late Fall with an event at the contemporary at museum Tube Factory Artspace in Indianapolis, IN. Students will learn about 3D resin printing in The Fabrication Lab in Applied Technology 141 where they will prepare, print, clean and cure the models. Students can paint the small figurines and help with editioning and packaging. Students can also learn about planning exhibitions at a museum and can attend the opening.
Attributes/skills/background sought in undergraduate:
An interest in 3D printing and digital fabrication and/or miniature painting, attention to detail, reliability, interest in contemporary art and design practice
Mentoring Plan:
The student researcher will work 5 h/week on the project including a 1-on-1 interaction with you for at least 1 hour/week. To complete this project, first we need to complete all of the 3D prints in the Fabrication Lab (AT141), which requires daily maintenance. This might take better 1-2 hours a day and we will develop a schedule for the week that works for you and the lab. Other tasks for this project can be done at home or in the studio with me.
