Department: School of Art
Research Focus: My research involves the creation of contemporary objects for exhibition in galleries and museums that utilize metalsmithing, enameling and community engagement.
Potential Student Project(s):
The student research assistant will be learning the skills of metal preparation such as drilling, cleaning, as well as enameling, bead fusing, and assembling of works using cold connections. The student may also learn about project management in the arts, communication with galleries, and art handling.
Attributes/skills/background sought in undergraduate:
Minimum qualifications: I am looking for a student who has passed an Introduction to Metals course (ACR221) or has had comparable experience working with non-ferrous metal applications. Ideal qualifications: I am hoping to work with a student who has passed the Enameling course (ACR324) or other intermediate Metals + Jewelry course.
Mentoring Plan:
We will meet weekly in order to discuss short term and long term goals for the project. All materials and tools will be provided to the student to complete the studio work. Certain processes will be shown and explained to ensure competency, but will need someone who is self-motivated and can learn new skills quickly. Each meeting will include a new set of goals and work that is expected to be completed by the following week, unless otherwise agreed upon. There will be a combination of independent working and some collaborative studio time. Students are expected to work 5h/week on the project, including 1h/week one-on-one meeting with me.
