After graduating from Ball State University with a Bachelor of Science in marketing with a concentration of advertising and communications, Professor Stewart landed at Heath Company in St. Joseph, MI, a subsidiary of Zenith Electronics in Chicago, IL. It was a small-scale business owned by a large-scale business operating a direct-mail catalog business and a system of fifty retail stores. His time there introduced him to processes and politics of running a direct-to-consumer business. During his eleven years with the company, he was fortunate enough to manage a retail store in Minneapolis, MN for a short period of time and eventually moved back to St. Joseph to become the company’s national advertising manager.

While working full-time for Heath Company, Professor Stewart earned an M.B.A. degree from the Executive Programs division of the University of Notre Dame (a mere half hour away from St. Joseph, MI).

After his time with Heath, he transferred to an even larger-scale business, United Technologies Corporation, working in the Carrier Corporation business unit of this multinational conglomerate.

Then, he joined the company as national advertising manager and held a variety of marketing positions throughout the twenty-five years, working in technical publishing, marketing programs, and product marketing…all spent in Indianapolis, IN.

Professor Stewart currently resides in Carmel, IN with his wife (whom he met at Ball State) and have three adult children, two of whom are fellow BSU Cardinals.
