YOU HAVE THE POWER To Change Lives

Poster Presentation

WE BELIEVE IN THE TRANSFORMATIVE
Power of Education

This is especially true if you were among the first generation in your family to attend college. Ball State has a proud history of admitting and educating first-generation students. That history speaks to who we are as a values-driven institution.

You may have heard President Mearns say that our hardworking students arrive with a sense of purpose, not a sense of entitlement. In return, we owe it to all our students—first generation and otherwise—to give them the academic tools they need to reach their full potential, because access to education without support is not success.

We will build support systems, eliminate barriers to success, recruit top faculty, and reward educators who make lasting impressions on their students. Please join us in Our Call to Beneficence.

YOU HAVE THE POWER To Change Lives

Red Quote

"I knew I was a cardinal when I attended Admitted Student Day. The professors seemed passionate about their relationships with students, about having an individual approach. You could tell they were invested in your success. At Ball State, I got everything I needed, and a little bit more..”

- Sophia Lyons, ’20, Rhetoric

FUNDING Opportunities

A NEW EXPERT TEACHERS PROGRAM: $2M

To help students reach their full potential, we must also help our faculty reach their own. We will create a Faculty Excellence Center to encourage educators to attain Expert Teacher status as recognized by the University. The professional development program would train Expert Teachers in high-impact education strategies such as immersive learning and enable them to develop their own innovative approaches. With your help, we can make a difference in the lives of our students by making sure our faculty are at the top of their game.

Teachers Program
ACADEMIC STUDENT SUPPORT: $1M

University College coordinates several academic support services. Some students need more support than others, simply because of socioeconomic barriers that have nothing to do with their desire or aptitude to succeed. With your gift, University College will help level the playing field for disadvantaged students by:

  • Providing funding to students from underserved populations so they can participate in undergraduate research, immersive learning projects, and study abroad activities.
  • Offering needs-based grants to pay for books.
  • Establishing a “Last-Mile Grant” to help students who are near graduation and facing a financial hardship.
Academic Student Support
GREATER IMPACT THROUGH IMMERSIVE LEARNING: $500K

Immersive learning projects involve teams of students working with community partners such as businesses and nonprofits to solve problems. Ball State currently offers around 100 immersive learning courses each year. With more support, we will reach more students and support more community partners.

CARDINAL CENTRAL: $1M

Did you know what a bursar was when you arrived on campus as a freshman? Navigating a university bureaucracy isn’t easy. Student services are spread throughout Lucina Hall and often identified by antiquated names. A user-friendly, one-stop Student Service Center, Cardinal Central, will combine Financial Aid, the Registrar, and the Bursar.

TEACHER-SCHOLAR OPPORTUNITIES: $500K

At Ball State, undergraduate research helps students build relationships, develop new skills, and leave college prepared to solve complex global issues. Our Teacher-Scholar Program is the primary catalyst for undergraduate research on campus. It gives students a $750 annual cost-of-living stipend so they can focus solely on academics without worrying about how to pay bills. Currently, funding is limited to just 45 students, and those funds will run out by 2023. We need you to keep the Teacher-Scholar Program alive, expand it to 200 students, and improve student retention and engagement, as well as our research technologies.
