Monica Sandler
Assistant Teaching Professor in Department of Media
Professor Sandler's research focuses on issues of creative labor and the cultures of prestige in the American film and television industry. Her current book project examines the socioeconomic history of the Academy Awards and the development of the movie "awards season." She considers the role that prize-giving practices play in building the class, gender, and racial hierarchies of Hollywood. She also researches in Comics Studies and presented on labor rights at the 2023 San Diego Comic-Con.
