Matthew R. Marvel is the George A. Ball Distinguished Professor of Entrepreneurship in the Miller College of Business at Ball State University. Matt’s primary research focus is human capital and learning within high-tech venture development. His research has been published in Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Journal of Management Studies, Journal of Small Business Management, and Small Business Economics among many others. He serves on the Editorial Review Boards of both Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice and Journal of Small Business Management.
Matt has served as Vice President and on the Executive Board for the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship. He has led entrepreneurship initiatives at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Western Kentucky University, West Virginia University, and Ball State University.
Matt earned his doctorate at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where he received a Kauffman Dissertation Fellowship. He earned a bachelor of science in marketing from Southern Illinois University and went on to complete a master of business administration at Eastern Illinois University. Matt has worked in a variety of consulting and marketing roles in information technology.
Matt enjoys home improvement projects and tickling his amazing daughters—Nina and Lila.
