Wharton Research Data Services (WRDS)

Business intelligence, data analytics, and financial research platform with access to more than 350 terabytes of data across multiple disciplines including accounting, banking, economics, ESG, finance, healthcare, insurance, marketing, and statistics.

Ball State University Libraries has identified more than 80 business-focused databases and primary source websites that are available to all Ball State students, staff, and faculty researchers. The following list is a small selection of the myriad resources available.


  • American FactFinder - This Census data project is now available through Explore Census Data and Census QuickFacts.
  • Business Source Complete - An EBSCOhost database collection offering company profiles, market research reports, and scholarly articles from all business disciplines.
  • Cabell's Directories - Find information about publishing in a given journal; view calls for papers and institutional publications.
  • Census QuickFacts - A streamlined website with frequently requested statistics from the Census Bureau. Profiles are available for the USA, all 50 states plus the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, and all counties. Cities and towns with a population of 5,000 or more are also included.
  • County Business Patterns - Access economic data by industry. Useful for studying the economic activity of small areas, for analyzing economic changes over time, and as a benchmark for other statistical series, surveys, and databases between economic censuses. A project of the US Census Bureau.
  • DataZoa - A data delivery resource offering 200 million data sets from primary sources, including the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Census Bureau.
  • Directory of Open Access Journals - An extensive, international index of diverse open access journals. DOAJ's mission is to increase the visibility, accessibility, reputation, usage and impact of quality, peer-reviewed, open access scholarly research journals globally, regardless of discipline, geography or language.
  • Explore Census Data (formerly American FactFinder) - A centralized portal for economic, demographic, and geographic data collected by the US Census Bureau.
  • Fed in Print - A repository of research and publications produced by the 12 banks in the Federal Reserve System and the Board of Governors.
  • JSTOR - Full text available for complete runs of hundreds of journals related to business, economics, management, and marketing.
  • NBER Working Papers - A repository of working papers on economic policy and business research produced by the National Bureau of Economic Research and affiliate scholars.
  • Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (NDLTD) - An open-access, full-text searchable collection of theses and dissertations from institutions around the world, including Ball State University.
  • Nexis Uni - Create exportable company lists and access company dossiers along with LexisNexis legal and news resources.
  • ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Global - Browse an international collection of dissertations and theses, including some from Ball State University. For a more complete collection from the university, search Cardinal Scholar.
  • Standard & Poor’s Net Advantage - Provides stock analysis, company information, and industry surveys.
  • Web of Science - Indexes core journals for all disciplines, including business. The 'Journal Citations Reports' feature includes the impact factor and other useful metrics.
