The English major at Ball State helps students develop advanced skills in writing, analytical thinking, and creative expression—skills that are valuable across a wide range of fulfilling careers and industries.

With courses in literature, linguistics and TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), creative writing, and professional writing, students explore the power of language while gaining practical experience and cultural insight. Majors can also take Immersive Learning classes, which provide hands-on opportunities in research, editing, design, publicity, and more.

Students choose from one of five concentrations, allowing them to shape their academic path to fit their interests and career goals.
