Paul is a practicing architect and owner of Monterosso Muse, based in Indianapolis since 2011. He has been practicing architecture for the past 30 years, beginning his career in healthcare design, and co-owning Tabor/Bruce/Puzzello and Associates, in Bloomington. Paul received his BArch from Ball State University, and a MArch from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, studying under Pablo Castro and Jennifer Lee of OBRA, William E. Massie, and Peter Lynch.
Paul has held teaching positions at Indiana University Bloomington, Ball State University, Lawrence Tech in Southfield, Michigan, and at the Herron School of Art, Indianapolis. As a former board president and board member for the non-profit organization, People for Urban Progress (PUP) in Indianapolis, Paul worked in urban/public design and product development from 2011 to 2019.
Paul’s work has been exhibited throughout the region. His interests are rooted in the identity and interpretation of Midwestern regionalism, the post-industrial city, and the role design thinking can play relative to materials, interface, and craft. His built projects have included: a house for architect/professor emeritus Wes Janz and designer/artist/educator Marcia Stone, incorporating timber framing and shipping pallets; a house in Brown County, Indiana clad with digitally fabricated wood panels; and a grant funded farm pavilion for Butler University’s Center for Urban Ecology, achieving over 80% recycled content in its design and construction. Monterosso Muse is currently working in the city of Detroit collaborating with urban and public design practice, w/purpose, for the Liberian Association of Michigan, to renovate their main community center. Paul holds architectural licensure in Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio.
