Data governance standardizes for an institution how data is defined, produced, used, stored, and destroyed. These standards enable and enhance organizational effectiveness and data-informed decisions.

At Ball State University, data governance is guided by a framework and managed by the Management Information and Data Analytics Strategy (MIDAS). Comprised of two committees, MIDAS is led by representatives of Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, the Chief Strategy Officer, and Information Technology.

The MIDAS Data Group works to create a robust data environment that supports strategic decision making and student success. The MIDAS Data Group meets biweekly to work toward reaching four key goals:
