Burris Laboratory School recently set a new standard in collaborative research, hosting the 2024 annual conference of the International Association of Laboratory Schools (IALS). With unprecedented international attendance, this year’s event, held April 24-26 on the campus of Ball State University, gathered educators, researchers, and professionals from 13 states, one territory, and seven countries spanning four continents, marking a significant milestone in the history of IALS.

In U.S. News & World Report's “2024 Best U.S. High Schools” listing, the Indiana Academy secured the No. 2 spot in the state, while Burris Laboratory School climbed two spots to No. 12, continuing their tradition of excellence.

Leo Furlong, a fifth grader at Burris Laboratory School in Muncie, is the champion of the 2024 Ball State PBS Regional Spelling Bee. Mr. Furlong’s winning word was “jalapeño.” The spicy competition, involving nearly 40 spellers from several local school systems, lasted 12 rounds.

The Indiana Academy for Science, Mathematics, and Humanities and Burris Laboratory School are once again receiving national recognition. U.S. News & World Report recently ranked the Indiana Academy (No. 2) and Burris (No. 7) among the top high schools in Indiana in its “2022 Best U.S. High Schools” listing. Both schools are operated by Ball State University’s Teachers College.
