Housing Assignments

The Office of Disability Services and the Office of Housing and Residence Life collaborate closely to assist students with special housing accommodations and needs. If you require special housing accommodations, please follow these steps:

1. Submit Your Request: First, reach out to the Office of Disability Services to begin the conversation regarding your needs and accommodation request. This will more than likely require medical documentation.
2. Communication of Needs: The Office of Disability Services will then communicate with the Office of Housing and Residence Life regarding a student's individual needs and accommodation requirements, as approved by their office.
3. Room Assignment: Our office will review the documented accommodations provided by Disability Services, assess the available space in the residence halls, and assign rooms that best meet the student's required needs in terms of type and location.

Important Deadline: To ensure priority review, all requests for housing accommodations for the 2026-2027 Academic Year must be submitted to the Office of Disability Services by May 15, 2026. Requests submitted after this date will not be prioritized and may not receive timely approval or response.

If you do not have a roommate at the time of placement the Office of Housing and Residence Life will pair you with another incoming student who is also in need of a roommate. We take care in matching students based on available information such as lifestyle preferences submitted in your housing application. You may be placed with a student in the same Living-Learning Community (LLC) or building based on your academic college or other preferences.

Once your roommate is assigned, we encourage you to reach out to introduce yourself and start coordinating plans for move-in day. Open communication early on helps set the tone for a positive living experience.

It's important to keep in mind that every incoming first-year student will have a roommate unless they have been approved for a special housing accommodation by the Office of Disability Services. There are several ways to find a roommate and we highly encourage students to find and verify their own roommate. 

Students can also change their previously selected roommate by going back to the initial roommate request page on the online housing portal and “cancel” the pairing. Students who are planning to do this need to be aware that the other person will receive an email that the cancellation has been made.

Every* incoming first-year student will have a roommate. Living with a roommate is a core part of the first-year experience. If you don’t verify a preferred roommate through the housing portal our office will match you with one based on your housing application responses and assign you both to a space.

We encourage you to explore the roommate matching tool in the housing portal and take an active role in selecting someone you feel comfortable living with. However, if no roommate is selected by the deadline, one will be assigned to you by the Office of Housing and Residence Life.

Each residence hall has a limited number of rooms and bedspaces, and various factors can influence the availability of space, including the number of returning students, those with roommates, and the timing of housing deposit payments. Additionally, the number of students enrolled in specific majors fluctuates each year, affecting how spaces are assigned.

As a result, it’s possible that you may not be placed in the building that houses your Living-Learning Community (LLC). However, even if you are in a different residence hall, you are still a valued member of your LLC! You are encouraged to participate in LLC events and opportunities, and we welcome you to get involved with your community.

Our goal is to ensure that all students can connect with peers in their field of study, regardless of their assigned residence hall.

Each residence hall has a limited number of bedspaces. When students are placed, the availability of space in each building will determine where they will be assigned. If certain residence halls typically do not have assigned Living-Learning Communities (LLCs), they may still be designated as additional housing options for specific LLCs. This ensures that students can live among peers in the same field of study.

The Office of Housing and Residence Life, in partnership with multiple academic colleges, presents the Signature Experience for first-year students eager to enhance their academic journey. This opportunity connects students with peers, faculty, and support systems within their field of study. The Signature Experience is the only program in Housing and Residence Life that guarantees that students will have a bed space in the hall of their Living-Learning Community, and every Signature Experience program is unique.
