Sarah Schmitt
Learning Center Tutoring Coordinator
Sarah Schmitt serves as the Tutoring Coordinator in Ball State University's Learning Center, where she oversees tutoring programs and works with an amazing team of undergraduate tutors and graduate assistants. She is especially interested in developing student leaders, creating meaningful training and professional development, and using data to make academic support more useful, welcoming, and responsive to what students need. Before coming to Ball State, Sarah worked in admissions at IU Indianapolis, where she enjoyed helping students navigate the process of getting into college and finding the right path forward. At the Learning Center, she has the opportunity to continue supporting students further along that journey, helping them build the skills, confidence, and connections they need to be successful -- and reminding them that asking for help is actually a pretty good academic strategy.
Sarah holds a master's degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs Administration from Indiana University, along with bachelor's degrees in Political Science and Psychology. She is also the traditionally published author of two young adult novels, It's a Wonderful Death and Where There's a Whisk. When she isn't thinking about tutoring, training, spreadsheets, or whatever project seemed like a perfectly reasonable idea when she started it, Sarah enjoys quilting and other creative pursuits, board games, road trips, and learning new things. She can usually be found with a book and an unnecessarily elaborate cup of coffee nearby.
