If you’re a school teacher, you may have found yourself pivoting recently from your familiar school classroom to a dining-table-turned-teacher’s-desk.
It’s both critical and timely to develop your virtual teaching skills. Ball State can help with our virtual and distance education teaching program. Offered as an add-on license or graduate certificate, this program will update your knowledge about the design, delivery, and assessment of instruction at a distance and in virtual classrooms for K-12 students. And it’s offered 100 percent online.
Virtual Teaching: Only Natural for Ball State
The virtual and distance education teaching program is a natural for Ball State because we are one of the nation’s most comprehensive universities in both the quantity and quality of our educator programs. We have a national reputation for designing, creating, and implementing effective online learning environments, and we maintain partnerships with a number of schools in the academic community.
The add-on license consists of three online graduate courses, which can be completed in just three semesters for less than $5,000, including related fees. It’s the most affordable program in Indiana.
Indiana Teachers
Ball State prepares the largest number of school teachers in the state of Indiana. For you, the course work serves as an add-on license to your existing initial teaching credential.
Out-of-State Teachers
If you’re licensed to teach outside the state of Indiana, you can take the three courses and earn a graduate certificate. Check with the department of education in your state to see if our program qualifies as an add-on license.
Current Ball State Undergraduate Students
If you're a current Ball State University undergraduate student, you too can take courses for the add-on license in virtual and distance education teaching. You'll need to fill out and submit a special application for undergraduates enrolling in graduate courses.
For questions about how to apply to take courses offered for the add-on license in virtual and distance education teaching, how classes might count toward your current undergraduate degree, or how your costs might change, contact Sarah Jones.
What will you learn?
Our virtual teaching license requires only three courses so it can be completed within one year.
The three online graduate-level courses focus specifically on preparing you to teach in virtual K-12 environments and to meet the teaching needs of diverse learners via asynchronous, synchronous, and blended modalities. Instruction, planning, and assessment course content target how to meaningfully engage the learner, while addressing Virtual Instruction Educator Standards.
Courses are unique in their content, but have common themes related to virtual education embedded within them. They also contain cross-cutting themes such as exploration of diversity, equity, and universal design.
