About Thalia Mulvihill
Thalia M. Mulvihill, Professor of Social Foundations and Higher Education, and Acting Assistant Provost, also serves as an Affiliate Faculty member in the Women's & Gender Studies Program and the Honors College and as the Director of two Graduate Certificate Programs, a.) College & University Teaching and b.) Qualitative Research and Education.
Thalia has served the Ball State University community for 22 years and holds a Ph.D. in Cultural Foundations of Education and Curriculum (Syracuse University) an interdisciplinary degree with a focus in History and Sociology of Education/Higher Education and a Concentration in Gender and Education Studies. She also holds two Certificates: (1) Gender and Education Studies and (2) Qualitative Research. Her MA is in Higher Education Research/Student Affairs Administration. (Syracuse University), and she earned dual degrees as an undergraduate in American Studies and Secondary Social Studies Education, (Syracuse University). Before arriving at Ball State University, she served in the Office of Residence Life and the Counseling Center at Syracuse University.
Her areas of Research and Teaching include Qualitative Research Methods, Innovative Pedagogies, and History & Sociology of Higher Education with a focus on women and gender issues. Thalia has produced over 62 refereed journal articles and book chapters, 90 refereed conference research papers, 85 invited presentations/training sessions, and has served on over 105 dissertation committees and 77 university, college and dept. committees.

Thalia’s campus leadership roles have included serving as an Assistant Department Chair (5 years), the Director of two Doctoral Programs (10 years), the Chair of the University Diversity Committee, the Chair of the University Athletics Committee, Graduate School Fellow, and a Diversity Associate.
Her Awards/Recognitions include: University Excellence in Teaching Award; Virginia B. Ball Center for Creative Inquiry Fellowship; American College Personnel Association (ACPA) Annuit Coeptis Mentoring Award; Advisor for BSU Dissertation of the Year Award (3 times); Advisor for BSU Master's Thesis of the Year Award; Dept. Award for Outstanding Teaching; Dept. Award for Outstanding Research; Fisher Institute Wellness & Gerontology Mentoring Award; GLACUHO Consultant in Residence; Ray Williams Academic Affairs Award for Outstanding Higher Education Faculty; Dr. Robert O. Foster Faculty/Prof. Staff Award (Multicultural Center).
