The Cayuse Research Suite is a cloud-based software suite and Ball State's record system, designed to simplify the review and approval of proposals and other research administration processes. Cayuse provides a framework for tracking and reporting on sponsored project activities throughout the award lifecycle.
The system provides faculty and administrators improved efficiency, collaboration, and compliance specific to research administration processes. Cayuse is integrated with Ball State's Single Sign-On (SSO) network, so no additional login information is required.
The Research Suite houses two primary modules:
Cayuse Sponsored Projects (SP)
Software that simplifies the proposal submission and award management processes through electronic routing, centralizes proposal information and status, and offers role-based dashboards to improve efficiency. All proposals are initially developed by your department’s Proposal Manager.
Cayuse Human Ethics (HE)
Allows investigators to prepare, submit, and route human subjects research studies with secure electronic document technology. Cayuse HE is also used to make modifications, request renewals, and report incidents. For information about HE, please visit the
Office of Research Integrity's IRB website.
Proposal Routing and Approvals
Before submitting a proposal to an external funding source, it must receive internal approval. Once the proposal budget is final and the proposal narrative is suitable for review, your SPA Proposal Manager will provide instructions on how to begin the University approvals process in CayuseSP.
These approvals must be obtained through the AOR before the proposal may be submitted to an external sponsor. In some cases, depending on the faculty team, required approvals may include multiple departments and colleges.
