Faculty who lead our immersive learning courses work with diverse teams of hard-working students to address the needs and challenges faced by a community partner. As a mentor, they’ll have the opportunity to put their teaching and research into action, positively impacting our partners and strengthening the skills of passionate students.
From project planning to funding to archiving class materials, the Office of Immersive Learning exists to ensure that faculty have what they need to be successful in teaching Immersive Learning courses. We have resources, programming, and funding available to help faculty launch and sustain courses, to recognize achievement, and to reward scholarly pursuits stemming from immersive learning courses.
Getting Started with Immersive Learning Teaching
The Office of Immersive Learning offers workshops, mini-courses, and materials that can help faculty develop and implement their immersive learning projects. For example, over 140 Ball State faculty members have completed our Immersive Learning mini-course on Canvas where they learn how to shape an Immersive Learning course and work well with a community partner. Funding for Immersive Learning Courses
Not all Immersive Learning projects will need funding, but when they do, we encourage faculty to apply to internal and external funding opportunities rather than passing costs on to their students. Faculty can use funds to pay for travel, supplies, equipment and more. Learn more about available grants and application processes here.
Awards for Immersive Learning Faculty and Students
When faculty lead projects effectively and student teams work together well, we think they deserve recognition. See eligibility requirements, nominate someone, or view past award recipients.
Support for Presenting or Publishing on Immersive Learning Course Research
Ball State faculty are true teacher-scholars. Many who have taught Immersive Learning courses have presented or published scholarship based on their experiences. Often, students join in, too! The Office of Immersive Learning supports these efforts with travel and scholarship grants. Find out more here.
