Kiara John attended undergrad at Stetson University from which she graduated in 2014. She then attended a doctoral program at the University of Indianapolis where she obtained her MA in 2016 and her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology in 2021. She joined the Counseling Center Staff in 2018 as doctoral psychology intern and was hired as a staff therapist in August 2019. Kiara’s areas of interest include Trauma, understanding power dynamics, social justice and Various areas of diversity and inclusion including (but not limited to): Impact of Caribbean culture on mental health, working with LGBTQIA+ individuals at various stages of identity development, what it means to be black in predominantly white spaces, religion and moral judgement making, and working with international students. Kiara’s therapy style is integrative style that with an emphasis on person-centered/humanistic approaches. “I believe that we are all working being the best versions of ourselves, but sometimes we can get a little stuck. Therapy can be an assistive process in understanding what is contributing or hindering this process, and I enjoy helping clients understand those aspects better.”
