Department Committees

Curriculum Committee

The committee is responsible for undergraduate and graduate program changes.

Committee members are responsible for supervising the paperwork and obtaining department approval to make changes in programs and courses. Members may be asked to represent the department concerning proposed changes at other related college and university committees.

The committee is composed of five elected, tenure-track faculty members from the three program areas of reading, early childhood, and professional cores; two contract faculty; and two student representatives (one graduate and one undergraduate). Elected members serve three-year terms.

The committee addresses issues related to graduate programs.

The committee:

  • interviews and recommends each applicant for a doctoral program
  • reviews applicants seeking probationary admission to the MAE program
  • takes a primary role in defining the criteria for appointment and reappointment of its graduate faculty
  • helps the department chair complete reports related to graduate programs

The committee is composed of five elected, tenure-track graduate faculty members; the director(s) of graduate programs (ex-officio); and two non-voting graduate student representatives.

Elected members serve three-year terms.

The committee makes recommendations for faculty promotion and tenure, reviews the P&T document annually, and secures department and college approval of the document.

The committee is composed of seven members. Five are elected, full-time tenured or faculty members who have earned the rank of associate professor or professor. The department representative on the college P&T committee and the department chair are ex-officio, non-voting members. Elected members serve three-year terms.

The responsibilities of this committee are to:

  • recognize outstanding achievement of faculty members
  • recognize outstanding achievement of students by awarding department scholarships, monitoring the departmental honors program, selecting annual outstanding seniors, and arranging an annual recognition reception
  • conduct annual election of faculty members to department committees
  • collect dues for the department social club
  • plan social events, arrange hospitality activities, and send encouragement to faculty members.

The committee is composed of six elected contact or tenure-track faculty members and one appointed faculty member (all voting). Department academic advisors serve in an advisory capacity to the committee, as needed. Elected member serve three-year terms.

The committee prepares the annual salary document. It also reviews all annual review and merit applications, calculating scores according to guidelines in the salary document.

The committee is composed of four elected members and one appointed member who are tenure-track faculty representing the program areas of reading, early childhood, and professional core. Elected members serve three-year terms.

The committee seeks outstanding candidates who can be hired by the department.

Committee members advertise available faculty positions, reviewing applications, and interviewing candidates seeking positions at Ball State University.
