Passwords are a critical part of information and network security. Passwords ensure the security and confidentiality of data that is stored on technology resources across campus. A poorly chosen password, if compromised, could put your information or an entire network at risk. To keep information secure, and to protect yourself from unauthorized access to your personal information and identity theft you must create complex passwords, and keep your password confidential.
Are you aware?
• A simple or easy password can allow hackers to use your computer to hack into other computers connected to the university’s network.
• These same hackers/scammers can use your email account to send malicious messages to everyone in your Outlook address book, personal address book, and inbox.
• The longer the password, the safer.
• It is your responsibility to make sure your password is difficult to guess.
• You should never use your Ball State username and password for any other account.
• You should use secure browsing (https instead of http) whenever you enter a password.
