These programs provide for the chemical, physical, and biological safety, security, and community health for faculty, staff, students, and visitors while engaged in their educational, work, and related activities on campus. 

Efforts and various programs include:

  • Hazardous materials management and transportation 
  • Chemical and biological waste handling and disposal
  • Chemical hazard awareness and communication
  • Natural gas safety 
  • Water supply safety
  • Wastewater management 
  • Fuel and chemical storage 
  • Spill prevention preparedness 
  • Emergency response

Other functions include environmental control of communicable disease, chemical exposures, or infectious agents through measures such as sampling and analysis, disinfection, restrictions or exclusions, educational efforts, and other practices. These activities require maintaining compliance with the varied requirements and standards of numerous regulatory agencies, as well as Ball State University policies.
