A seven-member board of trustees governs Muncie Community Schools.

The board, which officially began operating in July 2018, will spend two years creating a long-term plan for MCS. Members will dedicate their first year to gaining community input about the future of the schools.

Appointment Process

The search for board members began in May 2018 after the Indiana General Assembly and Gov. Eric Holcomb in May 2018 approved the bill allowing Ball State to assume responsibility for MCS.

The university sought applications from the general public, then hosted a public forum in June to introduce the finalists to the community.

The Ball State Board of Trustees appointed five MCS board members recommended by President Geoffrey S. Mearns. President Mearns also appointed to the MCS board one member recommended by Muncie Mayor Dennis Tyler and one member recommended by the Muncie City Council.
