Check the Graduate Program Application Requirements

Biology (MA/MS)

Director of Graduate Studies: Jess Ward
Program Delivery Method: Main Campus
Application Terms: Fall, Spring, Summer
Application Deadline:
  •  To start classes in Fall
    • January 31
  • To start classes in Spring or Summer
    • Your application must be completed two weeks before the start of the semester you’re planning to enroll. Start of term dates can be found on our Academic Calendar. If you are an international applicant, your application must be received by the international admissions deadline
To complete your application, you will need to upload the following required materials to your Cardinal Landing Portal:

  • Supplemental form: You will need to complete the supplemental form as part of your online application. You can access supplemental form(s) within your Applicant Status Portal. On the supplemental form, you will be asked to provide more information about your educational objectives, as well as your educational and professional background.
  • Three letters of recommendation: You will need to provide three (3) letters of recommendation. At least two (2) of these recommendations should be from university instructors who can evaluate your academic abilities related to potential for success in graduate school. The other recommendation may be from a work supervisor or other individual who can provide information about your work ethic, dependability, maturity, independence, ability to work well with others, etc. Recommendations from family or friends are not acceptable. Good letters of recommendation are particularly important if you wish to be considered for a teaching assistantship.
  • Transcript/credential evaluation showing complete academic history: learn more about our transcript/credential evaluation requirements.
  • (MS applicants only) Faculty research support form: You will need to complete a thesis research project to fulfill the requirements of the MS in Biology, which requires the stated commitment of a faculty sponsor at the time of admission. The faculty member who agrees to supervise your research will complete the faculty research support form and upload it to the application on your behalf. If you do not have a thesis research sponsor at the time of your application, you must apply to the MA (non-thesis) degree program. You will be able to transition to a master of science program if you arrange for a thesis research sponsor at a later date. Read our guide on how to find a sponsor (PDF).
EARNED ADMISSIONS
Our program allows students the opportunity to be considered for earned admission. This option is available to students whose GPA from their degree-granting institution is less than 2.75 but who have provided sufficient evidence of academic and/or professional achievement to indicate their potential for success in a graduate program. Additional application materials may be requested to be considered. Students admitted on an earned admission status must earn a minimum GPA of 3.0 in their first 9 semester credits of graduate work or be academically dismissed. Please connect with the director of graduate studies (contact listed above) to discuss application and program earned admission requirements.
