NATIONAL ARCHITECTURAL ACCREDITATION BOARD (NAAB)
Ball State’s Master of Architecture (M.Arch) degree is a professional degree program within the R. Wayne Estopinal College of Architecture and Planning, Department of Architecture. Our M.Arch degree is fully accredited by NAAB—the sole agency authorized to accredit U.S. professional degree programs in architecture. State registration boards require a degree from an accredited professional degree program as a prerequisite of architectural licensure. As a NAAB accredited program, the completion of the Ball State M.Arch program will allow graduates to become a licensed architect in the United States.

M.Arch: A TWO TRACK PROGRAM
A singular Master of Architecture (M.Arch) degree is awarded to all successful graduates of our program. However, student curricular plans follow one of two tracks, depending on undergraduate academic experience. Academic history will be reviewed by the M.Arch Admissions Committee according to NAAB standards to determine curriculum track. Curriculum tracks are communicated at the time of admission. Our M.Arch program has two tracks that reference the approximate years in the program and are guided by educational standards.
  • Track 1, two-year program: Requires a pre-professional undergraduate degree in architecture. Required courses for the M.Arch Track 1 program are 57 graduate credit hours.
  • Track 2, three-year program: Requires an undergraduate degree in any discipline other than a pre-professional degree in architecture. Required courses for the M.Arch Track 2 program are 99 graduate credit hours.
APPLICATION EVALUATION
The M.Arch Admissions Committee utilizes a systematized process for evaluating academic history to ensure alignment with NAAB accreditation standards. By reviewing an applicant’s transcripts with M.Arch course catalog descriptions and syllabi, the M.Arch Admissions Committee will determine which curriculum track to admit students into the program. Curriculum tracks are communicated at the time of admission. See above section “M.Arch: A Two Track Program” for more details on curriculum tracks. View the Application Academic History Evaluation Form.

EARNED ADMISSIONS
Our program allows students the opportunity to be considered for earned admission. This option is available to students whose GPA from their degree-granting institution is less than 2.75 but who have provided sufficient evidence of academic and/or professional achievement to indicate their potential for success in a graduate program. Additional application materials may be requested to be considered. Students admitted on an earned admission status must earn a minimum GPA of 3.0 in their first 9 semester credits of graduate work or be academically dismissed. Please connect with the graduate admission coordinator (contact listed above) to discuss application and program earned admission requirements.
