Kenny Shepard he/him
writes, directs, and choreographs projects starring Grammy, Tony, Emmy, Obie and Drama Desk award-winners as well as
American Idol stars. He is also a national educator with Broadway Jr. and an on-camera choreographer for their Disney Collection used in theatres and classrooms worldwide. For sixteen years, Kenny taught theatre dance at Butler University, consistently ranked in the top three for collegiate ballet programs nationally. At Ball State, many of his former students have appeared on Broadway, in National Tours, professional dance companies, and on
So You Think You Can Dance, and
America’s Got Talent.
Kenny was recently named “Best Choreographer” by
Broadway World Indianapolis for his work on
The Rocky Horror Show. He also directs and choreographs for Michael Feinstein’s Great American Songbook and (the world’s largest) Children’s Museum of Indianapolis’ Lilly Theatre. With his producing partner, Kenny directs
ESQUE,
Burlesque at Feinstein’s at the Hotel Carmichael in Carmel, IN. Previous directing and choreography credits include
Swing! (national tour), regional musical theatre, collegiate productions, symphony concerts,
IndyFringe,
The Indianapolis Circle of Lights, and
Perfect Harmony.
Kenny performed for six years in Mercedes Ellington’s Off-Broadway hit,
This Joint is Jumpin’ at The Edison Ballroom while simultaneously performing as a swing in Atlantic City’s
Legends in Concert at Bally’s Park Place. Other credits include the Indianapolis and Baltimore Symphony Orchestras, The Grand Palace in Branson, MO, and over 100 professional regional productions including Virginia Opera’s
Oklahoma! (dream ballet);
CATS (Munkustrap);
The Wizard of Oz (Scarecrow);
La Cage Aux Folles (Hanna);
Some Enchanted Evening (Will), and many more. Other credits include NCL and RCL world cruise ships touring the Americas, Africa, Europe, Scandinavia, and Russia, and Disney World/Hollywood Studios’
Beauty and the Beast where he performed in multiple tracks including Belle’s Prince in over 1,500 performances.
Kenny is a frequent adjudicator for iTheatrics’ Junior Theatre Festivals in Atlanta and Sacramento, as well as dance and show choir competitions, the NFL Colts Cheerleaders, and scholarship competitions for the Miss America Organization.
At Indiana University, Kenny was a Quill and Scroll Journalism Scholarship Award-winner where he was a Singing Hoosier and member of both IU’s Theatre Dance Company and Opera Chorus. Kenny graduated from Butler University with a BS in Arts Administration/Dance where he was a creative writing scholarship-winner and member of Phi Kappa Psi, The Jordan Jazz Singers, and Butler Ballet. At Ball State, Kenny was recently named an “Honorary Inductee” of their University Singers, a group he choreographs.
