About Les Morris

Les Morris is an Assistant Lecturer in the School of Journalism and Strategic Communication. Les has enjoyed a varied 25-year communication career in journalism, public relations, and higher education.

Les has been a business, sports, news, and features reporter and columnist for various Central Indiana outlets including the Franklin Daily Journal, Shelbyville News, and Current Publishing. His public relations background includes positions at a PR agency and as the director of corporate public relations for Simon Property Group, the nation's leading retail real estate investment trust company. In this role, he served as company spokesperson, worked with executives on media opportunities, and orchestrated communication activities for many new and redeveloped shopping centers in the U.S..

The bulk of his teaching career has been at his alma mater, Indiana University - Bloomington, where he served as an adjunct professor in The Media School. Les's core courses were public relations writing and public relations campaigns, a practical class in which students worked toward meeting specific communications objectives for non-profit clients. In 2022, he developed a popular class focusing on media, marketing, and branding opportunities around the field of name, image, and likeness in college athletics.
