Stephen Campbell
Associate Professor of Music Performance (Trumpet)
Dr. Stephen C. Campbell joined the faculty of the Ball State University School of Music in 2017. He is the director of the trumpet studio and the BSU Wrecking Crew Trumpet Ensemble which presents inventive and collaborative concerts every semester, and participates in national and international competitions and performances. Recently, the Wrecking Crew Trumpet Ensemble has performed at the National Trumpet Competition and at regional and international conferences of the International Trumpet Guild.
Outside Ball State University, Dr. Campbell maintains a full performing schedule by serving as Principal Trumpet of the Lexington Philharmonic Orchestra, Lexington, KY; and 2nd/Associate Principal of the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra, Charleston, WV. Stephen also serves as a substitute/extra musician for the Cincinnati Symphony and Pops Orchestras and the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, among others.
Originally from Garland, TX, Dr. Campbell attended Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, TX where he earned both the Bachelor of Music (Music Education and Music Performance) as well as the Master of Music (Trumpet Performance) studying with Dr. Gary Wurtz. Stephen completed his Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music in Trumpet Performance and Arts Administration studying with Alan Siebert and Phil Collins. Dr. Campbell’s principal teachers also include Douglas Lindsay and Marie Speziale.
Before joining the faculty at BSU, Dr. Campbell served as Visiting Professor at Stephen F. Austin State University, and Adjunct Instructor of Music at Sinclair College of Dayton, OH; as well as serving a substantial studio of private students from Ohio and Kentucky.
