All students must apply to both the School of Music and to Ball State University. International students should begin the application process through the Rinker Center for International Programs.


Undergraduate Students

Prospective undergraduate music majors and minors are required to audition for admission to the School of Music, as well as for scholarship consideration. You must audition on a primary instrument with appropriate faculty from that area.

Application Deadline

Tuesday, January 1, 2019

Students who miss the published deadline but still wish to audition for the School of Music may contact the School's Office of Undergraduate Programs at 765-285-5503 to inquire about potential options for completing the audition process.

2019 Audition Dates

  • Friday, January 25 from 2-8 p.m. (voice and all instruments except percussion) 
  • Saturday, February 9 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. (winds/strings/percussion only)
  • Sunday, February 10 from 1-8 p.m. (voice and keyboard only)
  • Monday, February 18 from noon-8 p.m. (all instruments and voice; jazz concentration auditions)

Graduate Students

Auditions are required for all graduate performance applicants, while a portfolio review is required for music composition, theory, music education, and musicology graduate applicants. Auditions may be scheduled individually with the applied performance or conducting professor.
