Biography
Scott Stephan's research explores the intersection of faith, family, and region in the pre-Civil War South. In his book, Redeeming the Southern Family: Evangelical Women and Domestic Devotion in the Antebellum South , he explores the ways in which the practice of evangelical faith in the household both expanded and contracted the moral authority of white women within and beyond the household (available from the University of Georgia Press on November 15, 2008). Stephan regularly teaches the first half of the American survey and courses on antebellum America and the Civil War.
