Dave Ferguson has served as Dean of the R. Wayne Estopinal College of Architecture and Planning (CAP) at Ball State University since July 1, 2019. An alumnus of CAP, Ferguson joined the faculty of the Ball State Department of Landscape Architecture after several years in private practice. His teaching focus is in urban design, landscape architecture and sustainability topics.

Dean Ferguson’s administrative experience at Ball State includes serving as a department chair and associate dean within CAP. In addition, he served for 15 years in a campus-wide administrative role as Associate Vice President for Emerging Media and as Executive Director of the Center for Media Design. The Center was the recipient of over $60 million in grants and other funding to develop Ball State’s significant digital capabilities.

He has been deeply committed to fostering connections with CAP alumni and professionals across the nation. And he has launched multiple initiatives to address the challenges facing the fast-changing design and construction environments including a focus on interdisciplinarity, inclusivity and the role of AI.

Since becoming Dean, the college has almost doubled in enrollment and has added disciplinary programs in Construction Management and Interior Design. The current portfolio of college program degrees includes Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Urban Planning and Development, Historic Preservation, Urban Design, Interior Design and Construction Management. Ferguson has also been heavily involved with community, regional and national outreach and is a founding board member of the nationally recognized Cardinal Greenway rails to trails network among other non-profit and professional service roles.
