Dave Ferguson became dean of the R. Wayne Estopinal College of Architecture and Planning (CAP) on July 1, 2019. An alumnus of the College, Ferguson joined the faculty of the Department of Landscape Architecture in 1988 with a teaching focus on landscape architecture, urban design, and sustainable design. Prior to teaching, he was in private practice for eight years after graduating from Ball State and later completed graduate work at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.

Dean Ferguson’s administrative experience at Ball State includes serving as a department chair and associate dean within CAP. In addition, he has served in campus-wide administrative roles as associate vice president for Emerging Media and as executive director of the Center for Media Design. He has been deeply committed to fostering connections with CAP alumni in Indiana and across the nation. And he has launched several initiatives to address the challenges facing the fast-changing design and construction environments including a focus on interdisciplinary and inclusivity. Ferguson has been heavily involved with community outreach and is a founding board member of the Cardinal Greenway.
