We’ve upgraded. Ball State is proud to announce the transition to a dedicated Major in Biomedical Science. This is a comprehensive, standalone degree designed for students who want a competitive edge in healthcare and a direct path to professional school.
Our new curriculum houses all pre-professional programs under one roof. We ensure you meet every prerequisite for your dream career while earning a degree that is highly marketable on its own.
The Ball State Advantage
Efficiency: We’ve mapped the prerequisites for professional schools directly into the major requirements. No wasted credits, no “extra” years.
Versatility: You graduate with a rigorous, science-heavy Bachelor of Science degree. If your plans change, you are already prepared for the biotech, research, or clinical workforce.
Excellence: Train in Ball State’s state-of-the-art laboratories with faculty who specialize in health and diagnostics.
Program Benefits
The concentrations in our Biomedical Science major feature collaborations with specialized health programs in the region to ensure that our students are prepared after graduating from Ball State.
By completing this program, you will also fulfill admission requirements for professional school after Ball State.
Dedicated Pre-Health Professions Faculty Advisor
Dr. Jennifer Metzler is not only faculty in our department but also serves as Director of the Biomedical Program and works as an adjunct faculty at IUSM Muncie campus. She is a part of our dedicated support team in Biology, who are always ready to help and answer questions.
Student Organizations
Our Pre-Health Professions Club enhances your understanding of health career challenges and accommodates and supports your changing needs. It also gives you ample opportunity to connect with your peers who are also studying subjects in pre-health.
In-Depth Research Opportunities
This program offers opportunities for you to participate in research through research credit classes, undergraduate research grants, laboratory journal clubs, summer research opportunities, undergraduate fellowship programs, and opportunities for physician shadowing. Some of our students are actively involved in research at IUSM due to our active connections.
Small Class Sizes
Our low student-to-professor ratio and small class sizes give you daily contact with professors in both lecture and laboratory, plus the individualized attention you need to excel.
