Groups of writers at Ball State often want to learn more about the Writing Center or want a lesson on a specific writing topic. We are happy to work with these writers in two ways:

Workshops
We can visit your class, group, resident hall, department meeting, etc. to introduce your group to the Writing Center. Alternatively, we can often arrange for your group to come to our main center to see the space in person. The introductory presentation lasts about 10-15 minutes with audience questions.

We are happy to collaborate with faculty, staff, and other leaders to create workshops and co-taught lessons on writing-related topics for classes, groups, or departments. Workshops can vary in time, usually ranging from 20-50 minutes.

Some recent workshop topics include:

  • Building strong writing habits
  • Considering audience and genre in college writing
  • Professional writing for artists
  • Navigating questions of generative artificial intelligence and writing
  • Designing research posters
  • Designing infographics
  • Adobe Express skills
  • Resume building
  • Personal statements for graduate program applications
  • Graduate school applications

Please note: instructors requesting workshops and presentations must be present for the entire class or meeting period. The Writing Center does not act as a substitute or teach lessons for instructors.

We can accommodate most requests with a two-week advanced notice. Most introductions are delivered by an undergraduate or graduate student tutor. Most workshops are developed by one the graduate student assistant directors. The faculty director or associate director develop faculty workshops.

To request an introduction or workshop, please send us an email or by phone (765-285-8370).
