A Spring tradition continues at the David Owsley Museum of Art (DOMA) with Art in Bloom, a free public floral exhibition on Saturday, May 17, and Sunday, May 18. Museum hours on both days will be 1-5 p.m. In addition, a complimentary public reception from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, May 16, in DOMA’s Recital Hall, will feature jazz, hors d’oeuvres, and a cash bar.
Family-friendly activities over the weekend include guided tours, flower-related demonstrations, live music, and hands-on crafts for all ages. Parking is free at non-metered spots on Campus Drive in the Old Quad.
Art in Bloom invites regional designers to present innovative floral creations inspired by significant works from the museum’s collection.
“Art in Bloom celebrates Spring by combining floral design with art from around the world,” said Dr. Robert La France, DOMA’s director. “This event and museum rival programs and collections in big cities. But here in Muncie, admission is free and we are open to our entire community.”
The Art in Bloom weekend also provides an opportunity to see the Spring special exhibition People and Places 1873-2000: A Selection of Photographs from DOMA's Collection, which was curated by local photographer Ronn Brown. This exhibition will close on May 23.
Throughout the weekend, visitors can view floral interpretations of six of the museum’s works of art and vote for their favorite arrangement. The museum will announce the People's Choice Award on social media on Monday, May 19.
