Groundbreaking for Ball State’s Foundational Sciences Building is Friday, Sept. 6. — a significant step in the University’s plan to meet the growing demand for STEM professionals in Indiana.

The ceremony will be at 4 p.m. on the northeast corner of Martin Street and Ashland Avenue.

The new $87.5 million, five-story structure will be the home of the chemistry and biology departments. It will be located in the new East Quad, just to the south of the new Health Professions Building.

The building will feature:

  • 208,000 square feet
  • aquatics suite
  • collaborative space
  • faculty and graduate offices and conference rooms
  • imaging suite
  • research library and computer labs
  • classrooms, teaching laboratories, and research laboratories.

The goal is to achieve Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification. Anticipated completion is Summer 2021. The new Foundational Sciences Building, along with the Health Professions Building, is part of a phased plan to replace the aging Cooper Science Complex.
