Ball State's Department of Public Safety will be assessed on compliance with professional standards in policing Nov. 13-16 by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). The assessment will address the department's policies and procedures, administration, operations and support services.

As part of the assessment, there will be a public information session for members of the community to offer comments at 4 p.m. Nov. 15 in Pittenger Student Center, Room 303.

The public is also invited to offer comments by calling 765-285-3298 1-3 p.m. Nov. 15. The assessment team from CALEA will be taking the comments.

Comments via telephone and at the public information session are limited to 10 minutes and must address the department's ability to comply with CALEA's standards. Written comments can be sent directly to CALEA, 13575 Heathcote Blvd., Gainesville, VA 20155.

The Ball State Department of Public Safety, the first police department in Indiana to receive full CALEA accreditation, was initially accredited in November 2007.

To view a copy of the CALEA standards, contact Robert Fey, assistant chief, at 200 N. McKinley Ave., Muncie, IN. For more information about CALEA, visit www.calea.org.
