Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois will address the Ball State and Muncie communities during a town hall style meeting Saturday, April 12, in Irving Gymnasium on campus.
According to university and Obama campaign officials, the doors to Irving Gym will open at 7:45 a.m. on Saturday. The program is expected to begin at approximately 9:45 a.m. Tickets were distributed Wednesday night by the Obama for America campaign office in University Square, 1609 W. University Ave., Suite E.
On Saturday, April 12, parking on Ball State's campus will be free and open to the public, and no permit will be required to park on campus.
Obama's expected visit marks the second time in recent weeks that a leading figure with one of the two Democratic presidential campaigns has scheduled an appearance at Ball State. Chelsea Clinton, daughter of presidential candidate Sen. Hillary Clinton of New York, spoke to a large group of mostly Ball State students in the Atrium of the Art and Journalism Building on March 25.
The Illinois senator's pending visit comes 40 years and one week after New York Sen. Robert F. Kennedy spoke on campus - also in Irving Gym - during his bid for the Democratic presidential nomination in 1968.
